Welcome to AFOD:
AFOD is an organisation led by young people. We are improving the quality of life of our most vulnerable citizens by challenging discrimination and providing solutions to break down barriers.
Introduction
Early in 2007 Aid for Orphans and the Disabled (AFOD) started to communicate with the UKbased organisational development and coaching practice, the Enfys Acumen (www.enfysacumen.com).
At first we explored ways of receiving development support by internet and telephone, but due to the costs and limitations of technology, this proved an unrealistic option. Consequently, Nigel Griffiths of the Enfys Acumen made a commitment to secure sponsorship to travel to The Gambia and lead an intensive planning and development programme with AFOD members.
Nigel was able to visit the Gambia between 2 and 16 November 2007 and a work programme that included training for local Non-Governmental Organisations and specific facilitation of the AFOD Board took place, leading to the production of this document.
Background:
Background to Aid for Orphans and the Disabled Aid for Orphans and Disabled (AFOD) is a non-political, non-governmental and charitable organisation in The Gambia.
It was established in the Bundung Borehole community in 2004.Our main purpose is to provide practical support to orphans and the disabled people in our society and eventually the entire country.

- Childrens' Villages (Family Strengthen Program)
- Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Social Welfare Department in 2006
