Welcome to ALDA-Asia Pacific
This is first ever official Group of Association of Late-deafened Adults (ALDA) Inc. USA, in the Asia Pacific region.
What is Deafened or Late-Deafened?
Late-Deafened or Deafened means deafness that happened postlingualy, any time after the development of speech and language. Late-Deafened people may have lost their hearing suddenly or gradually as a result of inherited causes, accident, illness, medications, surgery, noise, or unknown causes. They are unable to understand speech without visual aids such as speech reading, sign language, and or caption. (Source ALDA's brochure)
What is ALDA?
Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA) was formed in the US. The mission of ALDA is to support the empowerment of late-deafened people. Late-Deafened Adults are people who have lost the ability to understand speech with or without hearing aids after acquiring spoken language.
ALDA is committed to providing a support network and a sense of belonging by sharing our unique experiences, challenges and coping strategies, helping one another find practical solutions and emotional support, and working together with other organizations and service providers for our common good.
One of ALDA's most significant contributions is adding friendships and social activities back into the lives of people who have lost their hearing.

What is ALDA-Asia Pacific?
ALDA - Asia Pacific or ALDA - AP is an official group of ALDA Inc. This group covers countries in Asia and the Pacific region.
Why ALDA - AP?
In USA ALDA offer a great platform for deafened people and their friend, since years. They have many chapters and group in different states, which arrange various activities. However it has been noticed that movement of Deafened people are no where in Asia Pacific countries. And people don't know the term "Deafened". Communication need of deafened people has not been understood and there was none who raise awareness about the need of deafened people. There was no platform where deafened people turn to seek technical and emotional support after becoming deaf.
Therefore we started ALDA - AP to provide a platform to deafened people and their friends, in Asia Pacific region.
