Pakistan Disabled People Organization (PDPO)
PDPO is national cross-disability, self-help, human rights organizations of persons with disabilities established in 1981 as Disabled peoples' International Pakistan (DPI P). We have been promoting full-participation and equalization of opportunity of person with disabilities by delivering A voice of our own.
PDPO has collaborated with many other international agencies as well. Pakistan Disabled Peoples' Organization has been playing an important role in the disability movement in Pakistan.
Our Mission
To organize and continue to strengthen national network through democratic, gender-balanced, cross-disabilities based process and to partner with DPI, other international development agencies and governments toward the equalization of opportunities and full participation of persons with disabilities in their own development and development of other communities.
We envision
- A person with disability as one, who is educated, socially secured, economically productive and happily living with his/her own family in a barrier-free environment.
- A PDPO National Assembly as an effective, democratic, self reliant organization of men and women from all disability groups, able to work for the full participation and equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities in all over country.
- A PDPO as an effective, democratic and gender-sensitive national organization able to partner with governments and other international agencies for the mobilization of technical and other resources for its members, relentlessly expanding in terms of cross-disability and country representation.
Area of the Operation.
Jurisdiction shall be the whole of Pakistan including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Tribal Area, All provinces, federal administered area. In all chapters organizations at Districts shall be established for grass root membership. PDPO is a network of Disabled Peoples' Organizations and Parents' of Person with Disabilities organizations in all over the country.
Aims and Objectives.
- To achieve inclusive, barrier free and right base society on equal basis for the Person with Disabilities of Pakistan.
- To work on projects, these are of common benefit to all categories of disabilities.
- Ratification and implementation of UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD).
- Legislation for protection rights of Person with Disabilities.
- Research and data-base collection work.
- To promote accessibility needs including E-Accessibility and Accessible Environment for all.
- Advocacy and awareness campaign.
- Establishment of integrated income generating projects.
- Promotion of Community Based Rehabilitation Program.
- Promotion of Independent Living Centers.
- To support development of new Shelf Help Organizations.
- To encourage participation of Women with Disabilities on all levels including decision making processes.
- To promote and include rural based Person with Disabilities.
- To support in establishment of Parents' organizations.
- Mainstreaming of Person with Disabilities on all levels.
- To support the Government to achieve the all aims and objectives mentioned above.
- To collaborate organizations on local, national and International level.
- To develop networking on very grass root level and in vulnerable groups with in disabilities.
